Dear Denis,
Your right, Schwann cells never myelinate the CNS...but in the paper described in the video they are doing some type of transfer into ethidium bromide injured CNS...no?
Yes, you are right. Even more, I accept that the basic research needed to understand the processes of reconstruction myelin in the central nervous system.
But I see the problem through clinician vision. If I treat the disease of myelin destruction, the primary aim is stopped of etiology factor.
For example, multiple sclerosis, which cells need to transplant?
Oh yeah...agree 100% you cant just inject Schwann cells or other cells into MS and directly hope that any glimmer of remyelination will cure the problem. What is needed is approaches that block the autoimmune process and at the same time induce remyelination...maybe mesenchymal stem cells which are pulsed with MBP peptides ?!?! Who knows, but we definately need to address the underlying mechanism of destruction.
I think there was a video somewhere describing the multi-pronged use of stem cells for MS..if i find it ill let you know
Thanx a lot for your reply!
I agree with you.
I have an opinion about it. I am treat multiple sclerosis using stem cells.
