This video discusses how heart attacks generate VEGF which mobilizes stem cells to leave the bone marrow and enter systemic circulation, presumably on the way to the heart. Interestingly, the paper reviewed in the video was published in 2001. Since then numerous other studies have demonstrated VEGF and other soluble mediators are involved in chemotaxis of cells from bone marrow to areas of tissue injury.
