This is a composition of matter patent on polypeptides homologous to insulin like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP). Various members of the IGFBP family, such as IGFBP-3, stimulate hematopoietic cell proliferation (Liu et al. Functional cloning of IGFBP-3 from human microvascular endothelial cells reveals its novel role in promoting proliferation of primitive CD34+CD38- hematopoietic cells in vitro. Oncol Res. 2003;13(6-10):359-71.)

It will be interesting to see what type of stem cells are stimulated by the novel compositions of matter disclosed in this patent.

The assignee company, Nuvelo, is a publicly trading entity that is developing several drugs in the area of fibrinolytics, oncology, and growth factors for mucositis.
