This patent covers a tissue culture media composition that dose not require the addition of exogenous sera. The tissue culture composition is suitable for expanding mesenchymal stem cells and alleviates the need for serum through addition of the following proteins which are known to stimulate various types of stem cells: basic fibroblast growth factor, leukemia inhibitory factor, and stem cell factor. Additionally pantothenate biotin and selenium are also added.
This patent is useful for generation of clinical-grade mesenchymal stem cells for therapeutic purposes since regulatory agencies usually do not approve cell therapies in which the cells have been grown in media containing serum.
