Surgical adhesions cause excess fibrosis in an area that has been surgically manipulated. Adhesions are a major cause of post operative morbidity. In this patent biodegradable polymers are disclosed that are useful for covering post surgical areas in order to inhibit formation of adhesions. Essentially, the patent covers crosslinked polymer compositions in which the first synthetic polymer contains multiple nucleophilic groups covalently bound to the second synthetic polymer which contains multiple electrophilic groups. The inventors claim that this combination is superior to previously used biofilms and biodegradable polymers for the inhibition of surgical adhesions.
