Compositions and methods for inducing osteogenesis

This is a composition of matter patent on a series of compounds capable of inducing generation of bone tissue by inducing maturation of bone precursor cells and/or inducing transdifferentiation.

The examples section shows that treating mesenchymal stem cells in vitro with the compounds induces formation of osteocytes, as well as synergy with certain members of the bone morphogenic protein family.

As companies such as Osiris get closer to attaining regulatory approval for sale of mesenchymal stem cells, approaches such as the ones described in this patent will be more and more valuable since they can be used to augment activity of stem cells that have been administered.
