This invention relates to the generation of knock-out animals Through genetically ablating a specific gene sequence in embryonic stem cells of an animal, it is possible to develop animals, called"knock-outs" which lack the specific sequences throughout all cells of the body. The patent has two independent claims directed towards unique gene-targeting constructs that through homologous recombination insert themselves in the place of the gene whose deletion is desired.
