This is a composition of matter patent on the kit-ligand, otherwise known as stem cell factor. Stem cell factor is involved in regulation of a variety of stem cells in addition to hematopoietic stem cells. This patent is particularly important for when novel methods of inducing stem cell differentation in vivo are discovered and stem cell factor may be added to these methods to either induce proliferation and expansion of stem cells before differentiation, or to allow for enhancement of differentation.
