This patent covers the generation of mesenchymal stem cells from adipose tissue. This is an interesting situation since Cytori and others have patents on stem cells from the adipose tissue, and Osiris has patents on mesenchymal stem cells from any tissue. It will be interesting to watch if there is litigation coming out of this patent in light of other patents and clinical trials. For example, if Cytori did a trial with adipose tissue and Osiris proved that the beneficial effects of Cytori's cell product was due to the mesenchymal component of the adipose tissue.
