This patent covers the generation of an artificial skin that has a keratinocyte layer and a dermis-forming layer. The second layer can be generated by use of mesenchymal stem cells. This patent could be useful not only for covering of burn patients or sufferers of wounds that take a long time to heal, but it could also be useful for generation of in vitro systems for assessing ability of topical drugs to penetrate skin.
