There are two types of stem cells associated with the outside part of the eye…the limbal stem cells and the conjunctival stem cells. This patent teaches ways of culturing conjunctival stem cells, using various ex vivo tissue culture scenarious, including specialized culture conditions. There is one independent claim, which covers the basic aspects of these conditions. The patent is useful for generation of artificial tissue for various ocular disorders.
