This patent has 2 independent claims. The first covers a method of addition of medium spiny neurons in an adult brain through local lateral wall administration of a nucleotide expressing BDNF, as well as noggin. The second independent claim covers generation of medium spiny neurons in a patient with Huntington's disease. Medium spiny neurons are inhibitory neurons that comprise about 75% of the neurons within the corpus striatum of the basal ganglia. They are important in movements of the muscles, limbs and eyes.
