This patent is a division of application Ser.No. 670,740, filed Feb.6, 1984 which issued on Dec. 22, 1987 as U.S. Pat. No. 4,714,680 and was described below. This patent is similar to 4,714,680 with the exception that the one independent claim in this patent covers in more detail the antibody which is now known to recognize CD34. Essentially, this is the first time that an antibody has been characterized that specifically recognizes a stem cell population.
