This patent covers a device that is capable of separating various cellular populations, or populations of particulate matter. Essentially, the device addresses the need for an easy to use, effective, and rapid method of collecting the "buffy coat" from a blood population, as well as cells within the buffy coat. The device purifies the cells using axial expansion of blood fluid components layered by centrifugation.
