This patent teaches the generation of lineage-committed dendritic cell progenitors. This is important since the dendritic cell is a master controller of the immune response, being able to both stimulate responses as well as inhibit them. Dendritic cells can be made to stimulate responses through activation with various cytokines or toll like receptors, whereas they can also suppress responses when they are treated with cytokines such as IL-10 or TGF-b.
