This patent teaches ways of mobilizing hematopoietic stem cells using the chemokine know as beta-8. Mobilization may be performed for harvesting of stem cells from peripheral blood by leukopheresis, or it may be performed for the purposes of expanding the number of stem cells in circulation when there is a wound in the body that is attracting stem cells. Such a wound could be the lesion of a stroke or a cardiac infarction.
