Hello ,
Really neat patent issued last week, #7,501,281, which teaches how to induce self renewal without differentiation of neural stem cells by treatment with thrombin and other agents. The idea being that there are numerous inactive growth factors on these stem cells that can be activated with various proteolytic enzymes. Another patent, #7,501,115, covers aspects of Cytori's closed systems for purification of adipose stem cells.
In the news, a study was published showing the migratory effect of SDF-1 on hair follicle progenitors. This is interesting since usually SDF-1 is thought of primarily as being a chemoattractant for hematopoietic stem cells. Also in the news, a new video was put up describing the ability of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells to treat rheumatoid arthritis in the collagen induced arthritis model.
This patent covers means of generating pluripotent stem cells out of neural stem cells or neural crest stem cells. This is accomplished through contacting the neural stem cell or neural crest stem cell with an agent chosen from the following: a) thrombin; b) soluble Jagged1; c) thrombin receptor activated peptide, or d) a... Chicago IL- An argument has been made that various current day therapeutic uses of stem cells that involve intravenous administration is that "you cant just inject stem cells intravenously and you will get tissue repair". Obviously there are certain situations in which the tissue will not be repaired, however, this... Ask a question OR leave your comments.
