Interesting paper was published last week describing 3 multiple sclerosis patients treated with adult stem cells. The possibility of an easy-to-use autologous immunomodulatory protocol using the stromal vascular fraction was discussed.
Patent # 7,522,758 was issued last week covering the use of various flow cytometry parameters for diagnosing of diseases. Usually we support different methods of business patents, however this one has us on the edge. The broad nature of the claims make this very interesting to read.
Another interesting patent was #7,519,409 covering various cells for use as biosensors. The ability to use cells to pick up chemical signals too weak to be detected by machines is very interesting.
This patent covers methods of diagnosing diseases based on flow cytometric profile. Although the majority of the invention is directed towards chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), the first claim is rather broad: "A method for detecting a disease condition from images collected from a population of cells, comprising the steps...
