Hello ,
As we all saw, Geron had a great week with approval of the first ever IND covering an embryonic stem cell based product. We will let our friend Lee Buckler give you all the details in his blog.
An interesting news report that seemed to be getting attention is the treatment of a Texas police officer with autologous adipose derived stem cells for multiple sclerosis. Although numerous preclinical and clinical trials are using expanded mesenchymals for autoimmunity, this seems to be the first use of adipose mononuclear cells that have not been expanded. From the news report it stated the procedure was performed outside of the United States.
An interesting patent, #7,479,367, was issued last week covering a method of knowing which chondrocytes maintain phenotypic stability based on expression of BMP-2 and FGFR-3. Another patent, # 7,479,371, was issued which covers a method of diagnosing leukemia based on growth factor expression.
Autologous stem cell transplantation has given positive results in cardiac, hepatic, and various ischemic conditions. The current patent addresses the use of autologous chondrocyte populations for treatment of various cartilage...

The use of autologous stem cell therapy has many theoretical and practical advantages. Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells were originally used for treatment of ischemic heart failure, and subsequently to prevent post-infarct Ask a question OR leave your comments.
