Hello ,
A nice paper came out last week describing the generation of iPS cells from mobilized CD34s. One day in the near future we bet that people will start offering the service of making and banking your own iPS cells.
ES International was awarded another patent, #7,504,257, teaching how to make neural progenitors from embryonic stem cells using FGF-2 and EGF.
Jay Edelberg was awarded #7,504,379 covering new ways of protecting vascular endothelium by cytokine administration.
Finally, # 7,507,766 from Spain was really interesting covering the use of a class of chemicals called aplidines for protection of muscles and muscle stem cells against chemotherapy.
This patent covers methods of generating neural progenitor cells from embryonic stem cells in vitro. In its one issued claim the inventors teach the administration of EGF and FGF-2 to serum-free media containing undifferentiated pluripotent human embryonic stem cells in order to give rise to tripotent neural progenitor cells. ... Boston, MA - The generation of inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPS) has allowed creation of embryonic-like cells that appear to have similar degree of pluripotency and gene expression. Originally iPS cells were made from skin cells. A more recent paper (Loh et al. Generation of induced... Ask a question OR leave your comments.
